It Is Time To Restore The Sanity To Social Advocacy

Every group and interest needs an advocate. Those in the liberal media are quick to mock the idea that some groups (e.g. men, white people, straight people) would ever have anything to complain about. However, when you get past the modern, liberal academic idea that everyone is just their group and individuals don’t matter, you realize that injustice happens to everyone. Some groups, of course, are much more prone to it (women more so than men, people of color more so than whites, etc.). And so, more energy and resources should go towards protecting their interest. But everyone needs an advocate. Even Jesus Christ is described as an advocate for all who put their faith in Him (which can be you if it isn’t already – some recommended resources: http://www.cru.org/how-to-know-god/would-you-like-to-know-god-personally.html, http://3-ringbinder.weebly.com/) (1 John 2:1).

The problem has arisen in many circles where those who advocate for other groups are being drowned out by those in their movement who advocate evil, outlandish, or otherwise ridiculous views and then express and advocate for them. Because advocacy is so important (especially for minority groups), it is important that sanity is brought back into the discussion. Here are a few examples, and more are likely to come in the future.

Feminists:
Men are not all evil or useless. Fathers are still really important. Women who falsely accuse men of rape are monsters, not victims. They not only maliciously attack innocent men (who are victims thanks to them), but they are also the main reason why real victims of rape are sometimes not believed and are ultimately denied justice. If no one ever lied about being raped, then there would be no reason to doubt a woman who gets on the witness stand and says she was raped. Justice would be done. Instead, in many cases there is always that cloud hanging over the jury's head, that it is her word against his and the man whose life they may ruin could be innocent, and this leads to reasonable doubt and therefore no justice for real victims (on this side of eternity, that is).

People like Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton didn't grow to prominence by quoting faulty statistics about rape and pay discrimination in the work place. They looked at real problems (like women not being able to even vote) and fought to resolve them. There are plenty of things that are actually worth getting mad about (especially if you're willing to cross the political aisle and criticize liberals and conservatives alike).

Advocates of Minority Races:
Not everything is racist. When you approach things with the assumption that everything a white person does that could be racist is racist, you’re going to throw the R word around so much that it becomes meaningless. Were getting closer and closer to that point now in America. And this isn’t about me being too sensitive about my white privilege; it’s about the fact that this nonsense desensitizes people to real racism. It’s like the boy who cried wolf. Eventually, people tune out and assume you’re just spouting more nonsense. If everything is racist, nothing is racist. And this hurts people of color far more than it hurts white people like myself. I might get a little offended. People of color who suffer real mistreatment that can affect their entire lives may find their cries of injustice ignored because people stopped listening.

Men’s Rights Advocates:

Despite what the internet says, men’s rights can be infringed upon because they are men. Perhaps some think this is actually a good thing, since they see people not as individuals but only as groups, and therefore to hurt men for being men is fair because women are hurt for being women, the rights of individuals be damned. But for those who think individuals matter, or that two wrongs don’t make a right, it still is a problem. It’s less of a problem than women being mistreated; that doesn’t mean it isn’t a problem.

Men who are not the biological or adoptive father of a child and have no parental rights are still being forced to pay child support to the mother for no good reason. That's a real injustice. The legal and God-given rights of fathers are often abused or ignored in custody battles in the courts. Its is morally outrageous when a mother just up and takes the child to another state or country (outside of cases of abuse and fear of safety). It is even more outrageous that the courts and society so often just don't care. These aren't abstract legal and philosophical issues. These are real people's lives and the things that matter most to them, Fathers are people too.

These are real problems. These are things devote energy too. Explaining why punching a woman is really no different from punching a man and how sometimes they totally deserve it is not a good use of energy…
